I'll admit it, I'm a little surprised. I didn't exactly expect Obama to win in Iowa. I expected him to do well, just not this well. Mind you I also did not expect Hillary to win. Am I the only one who's not surprised in the least by Edwards!? He was the VP candidate the last go round after all... he finished a strong 2nd in Iowa before and has quite a bit of support and good will there left over from 04 - and - c'mon, you simply cannot count out the white man in presidential politics. even in the democratic party. especially this early on in the race.
that said - i'm a little excited. the more "real" Obama's candidacy the farther we move into the post-civil rights era... an era in which little black children can realistically (without getting that "yeah right" smirk from their own and from others) aspire to things like the presidency. To me this is the biggest move in this area (by FAR) during my lifetime. Until this it's seemed like we've been backsliding. It's seemed that way because we (the nation not (just) black folk) have been. Yet and still here's something very real that white folks can do to prove to themselves that they see us as not only people but as individuals. Here's something that they can do to actively and actually address their privilege - even if that's not why their doing it. Especially if that's not why they're doing it. Raising the 25M didn't do this, it just hinted at it... winning outright in one of the whitest states in the republic did.
IMHO Obama got the female vote due to Oprah & that's the single biggest endorsement so far this election. Bigger than any newspaper or union. He also got Kucinich's endorsement (in that "if I don't make my needed %15 in your precinct go support Barak" way) in Iowa - which actually means something to the farthest left leaning if no one else.
Perdictions: NH is built for Obama - he'll run away with it, especially with Biden out (please Barak grab Biden NOW as your VP candidate). Hillary get's the nominal 2nd place win over Edwards. SC, that's commonly referred to as the "black" primary and once the curtain closes Obama'll get %85 or better of the black vote there and his 3rd outright win, the "black enough" question goes out the window when he's the one on the ballot that looks like you... and he is (black enough) btw. - and even if he isn't Michelle (his wife) is. Edwards will get another 2nd place there 'cause it's "home" and that keeps him in the race at least untill Super Duper Tuesday (which is Feb 5th this year and CA is among the states voting). SDT decides the nomination this year - it's fully half the election.

Folks, Romney, regardless of his dough is not getting anywhere near the white house. I mean damn, it wasn't that long ago that we elected our first Catholic president I seriously doubt that we'll be electing a Morman any time soon... a scientoligist - sure, but a mormon... not gonna happen.
