Thanks for the nice feedback! I'm glad you picked up on the differences in their tastes. I chose Pickwick for Robert rather than the later Dickens, where the social commentary picks up. And I think Sybil's social consciousness has to come from somewhere; it struck me that Cora didn't object to Sybil's politics so much as the peril.
I'm glad you liked my handling of the Countess. I wanted Violet to be a presence in the story without being onstage, so to speak, because I imagine that's what it must have been like. I tried to imagine what a less secure Cora would feel like, constantly on display with a new set of expectations.
