Me, posting fic? Downton Abbey, Robert/Cora

Apparently this is a thing I still do? I have to admit to a lot of nerves, since I haven't written anything not related to graduate school in aeons. Crossposting this to LJ and it will go up on AO3 soon too, now that I finally have an account there.

Oooh, I like! I can definitely see them each being bookworms - and Cora perhaps choosing tougher stuff for her reading than Robert does. And the Countess must have been TOUGH for poor Cora in those early years! (Not that she's so easy now.) Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for the nice feedback! I'm glad you picked up on the differences in their tastes. I chose Pickwick for Robert rather than the later Dickens, where the social commentary picks up. And I think Sybil's social consciousness has to come from somewhere; it struck me that Cora didn't object to Sybil's politics so much as the peril.

I'm glad you liked my handling of the Countess. I wanted Violet to be a presence in the story without being onstage, so to speak, because I imagine that's what it must have been like. I tried to imagine what a less secure Cora would feel like, constantly on display with a new set of expectations.
