Not Enough

A cold hand brushes over his face, and he feels himself leaning into it. His arm flails randomly, snatching the wrist. He needs the contact, skin against skin, the same artron energy passing between their fingers.

The other smiles sadly; he knows how desperate he looks, for anything, but-

“I’m sorry,” he says. “I can’t.”

He shakes his head, eyes pleading, and he can’t quite bring himself to care that he’s this close to essentially begging himself for his own affections.

“No. I-please. Please.”

A sigh escapes the other’s lips, lips he remembers from, what, five lifetimes ago?

Has it really been that long?

And it’s strange, he thinks, as those too-familiar lips touch his. The comfort he’s been searching desperately for, even going so far as to ask it from himself, isn’t enough.

Always, always, it’s not enough.
