What Do You Do with a M.S. in Systems Science?

Marianne reminded me of the girls I could never talk to in undergrad: former sorority president at Vanderbilt, self-confident, sharp, stunning, one of those people who make friends within seconds of walking into the room. I reminded Marianne of the young academics she grew up with: an unkempt, inarticulate super-calculator who was still in the ( Read more... )

Why not just describe my skill set, you ask? Because few people would believe me.

Ha! Been there. Being in Applied Psych, which focuses a lot on the tools of needs assessments, program eval, measurement, analysis, group processes, and whatnot, I have a hard time explaining to folks what I could do for them. They want to know what area I can work in, but the truth is that I could adapt these skills to just about any area - health, I/O, education, marketing, whatever. My skill is finding answers to the questions you have. It's pretty darn broad. I've used the tools in areas as varied as agricultural economics, campus racial diversity, and smoking cessation.

Which MITRE location are you at?? (How did I miss this?)

Also, did you know WashU did away with the control classes? The new dean has declared BME is the way to go and is somewhat actively destroying the things about the old SSE department that places like MITRE and MIT LL loved.

Not Bedford. I wouldn't move next door without telling you. I probably shouldn't have moved *here* without telling you, but contacting you has proven to be a lot of work. I knew you'd find out as soon as I got around to posting. :)

As much as I bristle about any change to SSE initiated outside the department, I have to admit that I've never used any of the control techniques and probably never will.

Seven hours, forty minutes if there's no traffic in NYC. :/

Blargh. We should do an extended visit that would make it worth the amount of travel time involved, sometime.

No traffic in NYC. You so funny.

Amtrak has approximately (and I'm estimating here) 3000 trains between DC and Boston daily that completely dodge NYC traffic and frequently take less than 7.5 hours. (Not, like, hours, but AN hour or so.)

And I am in Providence for the time being. Just FYI.
