London plans

Theatre tickets booked! Next up -- figuring out where else to go -- this will be my 3rd trip to London and I've yet to make it out of the city to other parts of the country. I've left two days free, Dec. 5-6, with the idea of taking a side trip somewhere ( Read more... )

Two thoughts: if you're going to London mainly for theatre, don't you want to go somewhere else outside of London where the main activity is something else? I mean, nothing's going to live up to London anyway so why not go someplace with gorgeous ocean views or something?

Bath is nice, but it's another city. So is Cardiff--both nice and a city.

One thought: Penzance is reachable by train. Though it's a bit of a hike. :-)

I think that's my mom's logic in suggesting Lyme or Bournemouth or some place like that. And I kind of like the idea of getting away from it all, but it can't be someplace that is too miserable if it rains the whole time.

Is Bath that urban? I had thought not, but maybe the tourist area isn't as much?

Bath is totally a city. It's a small city, but there's no way you can call it anything but a city.

See, this is how I wound up in Paris last year ... and though I don't regret it, I wound up getting incredibly sick (see comment below) so I'm trying to give my immune system a shot this time by staying in the same country.

Also, I have a free week in a Paris apt. that I have to use at some point, so I'm thinking I'll be back that way. :)

Let me know if you want "the grand tour of Belgium", while it still exists. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20070918/twl-belgium-politics-crisis-4bdc673.html
