Let's get on this, people. Can we just boycott bands that try and get you to listen to their songs by name-dropping other better bands in their song titles

I'm forced to admit that it's largely a matter of the former. My dark secret is that two out of the three songs in that list have actually enjoyed a significant amount of time in my mp3 player, and not purely because of an apathetic inability to change its contents.
The thing is that it always feels like a pretty shallow ploy to show off that the band has some sort of taste in music themselves and engage in a little unwarranted coat-tail riding.
The CSS and LCD Soundsystem tracks I found because I actually listen to CSS and LCD Soundsystem. The Wombats one just came to my attention yesterday kind of at random.
While I can't speak on NIN's behalf, declaring that Led Zeppelin is overrated is a difficult proposition to support. I'll say that I respectfully disagree and leave it at that.
Chip, I agree that "Daft Punk is playing at my house" isn't LCD's best song, but I think many songs they've produced justify listening to them. I would support a motion to boycott such songs, though.
Riding the coattails or paying homage? Noting the bands performing and those mentioned in the songs, it's quite likely the songwriters could simply be paying tribute to groups that they enjoy/have influenced them.
CSS actually sounds a great deal, in style, like Death from Above and tons of folks that play electro of any sort are deeply influenced by Daft Punk, who have been creating great stuff for ages. I think fans of Death from Above would really enjoy CSS as a goofier group. LCD Soundsystem certainly would appeal to Daft Punk fans.
Really, the only place this doesn't hold is with The Wombats. Siiigh. But, really, their album is so adorable. I can't resist. And the group isn't capitalizing so much on their hipster fanbase, as they're massively, massively popular anyway.
