Part of the reason I stopped reading the Reichs books was that I couldn't stand Ryan. Another part was that I wasn't seeing much in the way of character growth in book!Brennan, and the third was that I liked TV!Brennan so much better.
(And I am SO not buying Reichs' attempt at explaining away the difference by saying that book!Brennan is just an older version. There's no way in hell that TV!Brennan would ever have turned into the diffident person portrayed in the books. Not to mention that in the pilot of the TV series, Brennan is already divorced from Peter with no children. They're clearly AU versions.)
