Fascinating, and reminds me of the Germans who assured me that I couldn't say 'you're welcome' because that's American - English people are supposed to say 'dont mention it'.

That's what I was taught as well. I can't even remember the last time someone said "don't mention it" around me in real life ...

This is why Korean's use the phrase "So-so". Who even says that any more?
So-so. Also "these days" and "at that time".
