"Of course, my lad," said Bracy, putting an arm about him. "Don't think otherwise."
"If they let us go," muttered Gedge.
Behind them came the sharp sound of hands clapping, they turned to face the native who was either their saviour or their gaoler.
"What will people of quality say, when their servants tell them you are standing out here lazily?" he demanded.
Obediently, they followed him back inside.

Steam rising from the crust of the earth, from the boiling seas and now, the world made anew, from engines and machines. Scientists had replaced the priests who bowed and scraped before natural forces, thinking them divine.
So thinking, he readied his simulacrum, running a hand across its full breast, its smooth flank. It would be stronger than a human woman, and more faithful. He flung the switch.
"I name you Eve!" he laughed.
She opened her eyes, stepped forwards. "My name is Lilith," she said, her voice hissing with steam.
Her fingernails were knives.

"No one's watching," Ford said, in the manner of one wondering what silly little thing is running through someone else's head.
"But it's public!" Arthur wailed.
Ford untangled himself. "Arthur," he said, "This is Betelgeuse, not Earth. We have different customs here."
"That's Betelgeuse," Arthur grumbled, pointing up at the sun.
"Sometimes you're more literal-minded than me," Ford grinned. "We could go indoors?"
Arthur glumly shook his head. If Ford's family were going to throw a party in their garden to welcome him, he felt constrained to stay visible.
Ford kissed him again.

Yohji turned away. It wasn't like Schuldig ever wanted to fight anyway, just to torment him.
"And you come when they die. You sick bastard!"
"Go away," Yohji said. "I'm not listening."
"You'd have strangled Asuka eventually."
"Don't you say her name, you piece of filth!" He struck out with his wire, snapping it round Schuldig's neck and pulling tight. Schuldig coughed, choked, and vanished.
Yohji woke, staring into darkness. He wished he'd never killed Schuldig in the tower. Death only made him stick closer than ever.

"-- and so, instead of staying here with your fake one true love, you could travel the universe with me, and perhaps meet up with your real one true love," the Master finished, smiling winningly.
"You don't look like the pictures I've seen," Rose said. "How'd you get to this dimension anyway? The Doctor said it was impossible."
"Pffft. I regenerated. You should have seen the look on your boyfriend's face. As for how I got here, some of us are willing to risk destroying all the worlds for the sake of spite and vengeance. Coming?"
Yes, Rose thought. She would.
