I was in the Dick Bruna house in Utrect a month or two ago. Aimed at children, but also fun for adult Miffy fans. And now I have Miffy oven gloves and tea towel.

La Place de la Concorde Suisse is a very good book. I bought it a few months ago. It also has an interesting assessment of how the language divides across the country are reflected in the military -- in spite of the national service aspect, most of the senior Swiss Army officer corps is from the German-speaking areas, with only a bare handful from the French- and Italian-speaking regions. Which I suppose is understandable, considering the general linguistic distribution of the population, but it does highlight the whole Röstigraben concept.

I did think, I bet Gramarye1971 would like that book. Then I thought, I bet she's already read it !

Hee! I admit that it did give me about a dozen plot bunnies. But the writing style is very clear and thoughtful, and even if it's a little dated now (since it was written in the 1980s, and the end of the Cold War has indeed led to a number of installations being decommissioned) it's an interesting look at the otherwise secretive Swiss military culture.

Some of the covers are so striking!

Oh, album covers! I loved (and still do) the Roger Dean ones.

I love it when lost pieces of great art/music/[you-name-it] turn up in attics and rummage sales.

isn't it brilliant? Sadly, my attic remains lost treasure free.

Nor in my in-laws' attic, as it has been the only attic recently at my disposal.

(A friend send me a PM this morning pointing out that you and I seem to be doing a lot of rocking all the things on this recs page \m/)
