Growing up on the east side of Cleveland has left a life long appreciation of the sun. As a matter of fact, I sometimes long for a nice grey day to just stay home and veg. When I went off to college in St. Charles, MO I spent days walking around looking up at the blue sky. I just couldn't believe that every day the sky could be blue and clear of clouds. In Florida I have to wear my shade producing hat almost every day. B never gets tired of the sun, but sometimes the day after day of unrelenting sunshine just seems foreign to me.

I am not sure that just trying to create safe schools is the answer. I think that there needs to be training on parenting and on reaching out to each other. I see these shootings as a final cry for notice. You never helped me when I needed it, so I will make a final show before I go. You won't forget me when I am gone like you did when I was alive. I think we guard our personal space so much that we totally ignore the people around us to our peril and theirs.
