Cultural differences :)

Jan 09, 2007 00:19

This evening I have dedicated a bit of time to chatting with strangers. Meaning, I went on a website where my profile is set on a strictly "want to find friends" basis. The website is located in Romania (www.sentimente.ro) and very much frequented by men from all over the world looking for the famous beautiful and sweet Romanian girlfriends ;). But ( Read more... )

;). The fact is that I am SLOW. If I have time to think things through, I can put together halfway decent phrases, but when I try to write fast, I alway get confused with Italian and write a lot of BS...!

I have no idea! He has no picture on his profile, and I didn't ask him for one!
(for the sex stuff I have other hunting grounds ;) this is strictly CULTURAL...! I need to keep my sentimental/sexual and study areas separated, I have realized, because if they overlap, when something goes wrong it fucks up my whole attitude towards the learning. I lost three whole weeks of study because of that lately, as the language had become too connected to a certain individual, I don't want to go there again at least until I know enough of it that it doesn't make a difference any more... )

well I have already met a few nice people there, among which a Romanian woman more or less my age who lives in Torino, only 2 hours from here, and we might even meet sometimes soon!

hahahaha - really amusing conversation! The first guy was so sweet, offering to get you a work visa and all - hahaha
The second one was also nice - he wanted you to get to your senses! Don't betry the German blood! You gotta admit you had fun!

Well I have certainly noticed (and not for the first time either) how much more courteous and discreet Romanians are in online conversation. Certainly a big difference to the average level on the Italian chat sites. I don't know if that is because I am a foreigner and they treat me differently, but I sure like it. Education has truly become a rare element in most European countries, alas..

Unfortunately education has become a rare thing in Romania too. You just got lucky and bumped into a really well educated guy. Also, when we're talking about somebody with a degree in molecular physics who works in constructions, laying tiles - he HAS to be an interesting character! Strugling like this to make a living builds character...

That's pretty encouraging. It took only two idiots before you got to deal with someone nice. That's a good success rate on sites like that! :-)

I have been noticing before that the Romanians are more educated in chat. I have had quite a few very interesting conversations on that website already.
