I feel like I can see bits of your own life in this (at least bits that we've heard), in both Anne and Marie. This is so beautifully written and the subject matter brings me so much warmth.
There are times when I find myself wishing that I could live my life like Marie, just wafting from place to place, sharing whatever it is I have to share with people, and then moving on. It seems so hard to do anything like that, what with the house and the family and the responsibilities... but the house and the family and the responsibilities can be nice, too. I'll have to give some thought on how I can achieve this idea of a balance between homebody and nomad.
I'm getting off track. I really enjoyed this! It's good to see fiction from you, and I think it's very interesting how your fiction and your non-fiction pieces both have a very similar feel. You definitely have a signature that I can see running through all of your writing, and I just love it to death. :-) Good work, and good luck!
Thank you so much, dear. Your comments are always so thoughtful and in-depth! I wrote this without any plan or intention, really, but yes, there is quite a bit of myself in both these figures... and of my wish to be free of all things encumbering us in this difficult period! I have been there for a while, with just a backpack and living from day to day, but I was not serene then, just reckless, LOL.
A very powerful piece which I enjoyed reading. I'm a bit puzzled by this sentence "If she wants, there will certainly be a place where to sleep for not much money, if she does not pretend too much." Do you mean "expect too much?"
I did intend to express the fact that people renting flats often have quite high pretenses - more than just expectations, they claim automatic coffee machines, dishwashers and such in low rent places. Does that sound right to you?
