Wow - what a story.
I didn't know about the walking.
Do you remember all of that still or have you been told about it?

I remember most of it but obviously my parents also talked about it often, so my and their memories have merged in a way. I remember the pain and the panic of not being able to breathe very clearly though and still sometimes have nightmares about that.

Is that a true story? Wow! That was by a hair's width... How lucky to have a trained nurse nearby who knew what to do.

Yes, all of it is true. And I was incredibly lucky that Ljubinca's husband worked there and she was between jobs and staying with him for the summer!

Wow. My mother (and I think her father) used to say "Mit Betrunkenen und kleinen Kindern ist der liebe Gott" :-) You certainly had a guardian angel there in the form of Ljubianca.

When I was done reading, I realized I had tears in my eyes. What a story! And, thank you Ljubica for her lifesaving walking that kept you alive until you could get to the ER. I'm never going to think about "walking" in the same way again.

One thing I do know is that whenever I have a cold / cough, lying down is the worst thing for it and the necessity of draining, and I'm better if I walk a bit. It's hard when all you feel like doing is lying down.

I had Whooping Cough (another one of those childhood diseases) as 1st grader - long before there were vaccinations for it. I believe that my propensity for bad coughs with every cold I get is a direct result of having this disease. It's a weak spot in my system now.

A story like this could and should be a lesson for the anti vaxxer movement. THIS is one of the diseases we are preventing by those vaccinations.

Thank you. Yes, I am supremely grateful for vaccinations, also because the second time I nearly died from pneumonia was after I caught the flu, and since then, for 15 years, I have been religiously getting the flu vaccine and fortunately avoided any more pneumonia (knock on wood!)

Getting the flu even after having gotten a flu shot happens. In 2014 it happened to me, and - wow - I was sick for about 10 days with it. Turns out they didn't predict the correct strain of the flu, and lots of people came down with it who had gotten a shot. I was lucky not to get pneumonia with it.

❤❤❤❤❤

Though I heard parts of this story from you, reading the whole thing is very impacting. Bless Ljubica.
