The Two-Headed Monster

Aug 12, 2008 10:08

Continued from the Obama post.....well, sort of.

What's an independent voter to do when he feels the two sides of our political system are misguided with one being no better than the other? There is no difference!

We have a pair of party conventions just around the corner and I just don't give a damn. At this time in an election year I'm usually ( Read more... )

Later today, I will likely post a rather lengthy diatribe of my own. . . this one prompted by one of my LJ friends who is Russian (I read his journal with the assistance of Google translate - he, on the other hand, is multi-lingual), and not very happy with Dubya either. I've done some reading and research as a result of a post on his journal, and have developed a [as-of-now pseudo] theory about the whole thing that makes me not like any of them either.

I'll be looking forward to that diatribe.

My blogging has been below average this month. I haven't posted much but I've had this political theme running in my head. This will probably take multiple posts to purge from my mind.

The closer this election gets the more I think I will not vote for the first time in my life. No one impresses me and I'm tired of giving my vote to 'the other guy'.

I agree with you totally. The entire system needs abolishing and re-doing. Have you ever noticed anyone who ever gives a real work-able answer to a real problem never makes it far? The american political system has nothing to do with the people. Who do you choose for your choice when the only good choice is 'none of the above'? Yet, in good conscience, you feel you have to cast your vote?

In the past I have felt that I should vote for reasons of conscience but after voting for George and being so thoroughly disappointed in his presidency I no longer feel I should vote if no candidate speaks for me.

This is a very odd position for me to be in. I'm not entirely comfortable feeling this way. I hope something is said that changes my mind.

We need to abolish the electoral college first. Then we can think about more political parties.

I have always been against abolishing the Electoral College but I'm reconsidering that position. I read something last year that caused me to ponder what it might do to our system in regard to stripping power from the two parties.

Elaborate if you'd like.

I to disappoint a smart man but I'm still a little tipsy. I will need to "elaborate" anon.
