When I first heard the Coen brothers were remaking the western classic True Grit my reaction was, "Say it ain't so. Who in hell are you going to cast in John Wayne's only Oscar winning role?" There are some characters done right the first time. And do we have to remake every damn movie? .

Glenn Campbell's character is now in the capable hands of Matt Damon. Brolin plays Chaney and Pepper appropriately plays Ned Pepper. I haven't seen this movie in 20 years. When I was a young kid loving westerns it was one of my favorites but it's not a typical shoot 'em up cowboy flick. There are real characters in this film, acting and dialogue. I forgot how good the cast was, Campbell aside, you also have Dennis Hopper and Robert Duvall.
Strother Martin will always be the Captain to me. Cool Hand Luke is one of my all time favorite films. I have it on DVD. "What we have here is a failure to communicate."
