we don't have the professional pictures back yet, but we were blessed to have many skilled photographers as wedding guests. the following is a mix of different people's photos, though the majority of these shots were taken by my dear friend eimi (
scubatoeeimi) and my cousin amos.
what are those my little ponies doing there, you may ask? they were gifts made by my brother's girlfriend beth. my little ponies made in our likeness is sheer brilliance ... had i known she was so skilled, i may have considered having a cake topper!

here's us at the rehearsal. our officiant was the lead guitarist in dan's band, nick, who we got ordained online. we were really happy we went this route, because it felt really comfortable, intimate, and customized for us. nick did a really great job - we gave him a general outline and he elaborated on some parts.
in thic picture, nick had just suggested some humorous vows for dan to say ("efrat, you're really hot. will you marry me?")
dan's parents, looking rather jubilant.
the (non)rehearsal dinner was a bit chaotic & crowded. the bottom line was that people were happy to see each other, so it wasn't terrible. however, the relatives were getting pretty antsy and a massive paper airplane-fight ensued, which this photo barely portrays. there were tens of airplanes in the air at any given time. my family was confused and eventually concluded it's some sort of family tradition.
we got married on cinco de mayo. the rehearsal, on cuatro de mayo, was at a restaurant called Cinco de Mayo. i guess wearing sombreros couldn't be avoided.
some getting ready shots:
straightening my hair
holding up one of the 4 necklaces i made.
some location shots. we were very lucky and got a spectacular day.
we had a few key people lead the guests across the street from the venue to the park where there's a bridge and a pond. from the bridge, you can see the Neighborhood House, which is where the reception took place.
the view from the other side of the bridge
on the walk from the venue to to park where we had the ceremony, we stopped to take some pictures:
my sister is in yellow, and my very dear friend from college, jen, is in pink.
me with my mom & sister
waiting behind the barn, my sister says, "can i gloss you?"
my sister did a great job with my makeup. and i am soooo happy i decided to wear my hair down. i went to 4 stinkin' hair trials before i decided that i would look way more like myself if i just wear it down & straight. note how perfectly the earrings dan's mom gave me match the ensemble. and, i am wearing one of the 4 necklaces i made.
the chuppah and chuppah holders in action. tomas took a video that may show just how strongly the wind affected the chuppah. i am probably seen grimacing as i walk down the aisle, becuase i see the chuppah blowing up & flapping off the poles. the quick thinkers got a hold of some hairbands and got everything secured ... many people i mentioned it to later never realized there were any technical difficulties.
we had a bluegrass band,
Free Grass Union, play the ceremony processional (Grateful Dead's Ripple, instrumental), recessional (the Beatles Two of Us), and the cocktail hour.
dan's nieces were the flower girls
dan's nephews were the ring bearers. yes, i knit the pillow - i'm not sure anyone got any closeup shots of it.
everyone gathered on the bridge for the ceremony
our official photographer,
david stess, is an old friend of dan's and quite the character, with all those cameras slung around his neck!
people arriving at the venue for the reception:
the klezmer music circle dances getting a little hectic:
one thing i stubbornly insisted on was the polaroid guestbook.
this picture highlights why rumours are now running rampant with various busy-body (and jewish, that might exacerbate it) relatives that i'm pregnant. hellloooooo, it's just my shape & posture! how funny that people feel the need to think it's a shotgun wedding when this month marks 12 years since we've met, and we gave ourselves a whole 8+ months to plan.
i am really happy i did, because people seemed to have fun with it, and i certainly will be more intersted in looking back on this than a book with people's names.
i had these scratch-card postcards in the kids' basket, but some of the adults got into it too. this one found its way into our guestbook.
under the cut are some highlights, but links to all categories of public pictures are as follows:
