i'm not big on resolutions: too much pressure. instead, i have come up with a ritual of smoking a cigarette on new year's day. mind you, i don't smoke cigarettes, but i've had a flirtation with tobacco over the years, so it's just my way of starting off the new year shitty so i have room to improve. plus, it's a reminder of the tenuous relationship i have with that particular deadly nightshade.
i also don't think proper new year's resolutions should be started in the first week of january. there's too much adjustment to the ending of the old year and the start of the next. but, there is something exciting about a great big gaping blank slate of a year and wondering what will fill it. so i've come up with a few intentions:
1) dan and i want to cut out meat & dairy, at least for home consumption. we're still working on existing dairy & meat in the fridge & freezer, but we're not buying anything once we're out. i am pleased, because i have been wanting to change the diet for awhile. now that mike out of the house for the winter and our meals are only our own, it will be fairly easy.
2) vacation. i'm pushing for a trip to somewhere we've never been before. mexico is a contender, and though we've been there, it would still be awesome. i mostly mean that the trip to texas shouldn't count, since it's very familiar territory.
3) cats! i really hope we get cats. we plan to build a little outdoor shelter in one of the sheds or the basement, but i'm hoping full winter mode doesn't get too brutal, since we plan on having outdoor cats. it's been relatively mild thus far, for the winter.
4) knit actual garments. that's next in line, once i'm finished with blanket mode
5) floss more regularly. i know this one will be tough to keep. i've tried before but laziness often prevails.
