So much WTF about S4 screams for fic, imo! I enjoyed this quite a lot, especially John's guilt over beating Sherlock half to death and liking it and the idea that Mycroft doesn't employ any security that could be killed, sedated, or bribed.

Only... Sherlock seems to go from "I can't possibly have a secret evil sister" to "Let's stage something really elaborate to force the truth out of Mycroft" awfully fast. And then the kiss at the end was... maybe not enough for someone into Johnlock but too much ("Wait, what??") for the rest?

I always knew this fic was going to fall between two stools, so to speak - the original impetus was that I wanted to point out how ridiculous that scene was, and how unlikely it would be from a 'realistic' point of view. However, I then told the story in a 'realistic' way, which then apparently leads you to take it more seriously ( ... )

Not sure what the other comment was, but thanks for elaborating - it makes much more sense to me now! That opener was truly ridiculous. It's a measure of how much I disliked the previous two episodes that The Final Problem was by far my favorite of the three.

It was just a comment that unlike most of my fics, I wrote it out of exasperation rather than affection... but then I deleted it because it wasn't entirely true, more a mixture of both!

...I also liked it the best of the three, by quite a margin. Sigh.

I need to catch up with so much. But I will, I promise. Never been a great lover of the song (particularly the Frank Sinatra version, ugh) so the title is already a hit with me.

Just be warned it may not be your thing at all. I do like the song, but it's an acquired taste - I think I had to see it in context of the original musical before warming to it. The fic, however, just shamelessly takes advantage of it *g*
