I just wanted to post this, because see how beautiful it looks on film (including BC)? I spent part of August researching this phenomenom of live theatre on film, and one interesting thing was the way that NT Live camera rehearsals are done in tandem with stage rehearsals, so it's essentially being directed for film at the same time that it's being

Pixels actually looked kind of fun, because Peter Dinklage! Did you see him in that LARP movie a while back?

I haven't seen PD in anything except maybe the five seconds of Game of Thrones that I attempted to watch. He has an amazing voice, though, and his character was quite cool - literally and figuratively *g*

I hope you're right about the filmed Hamlet version, but I'm not getting my hopes terribly high. I'm afraid I wasn't all that happy with the Frankenstein, though that may have been more due to the show itself.

I think as a play Frankenstein had its structural flaws (and I still don't get the all-singing, all-dancing train effect) BUT as a BC vehicle I thought it was an amazing showcase, if that makese sense *g*

I do agree with that -- he was a pleasure to watch, even when the production itself was questionable. but I'm not sure how much of my opinion is critical judgment, and how much is fannish devotion. ;)

The best film I've seen so far this year was Theeb, a crossover between a western and WW1 movie situated in the Jordanian desert. Hit me straight in the solar plexus but hey, since the Quincunx disaster you know what to do with my recs.
Yeah, the Hamlet trailer looks lovely but it was theatre, wasn't it?

I watched the trailer of Theeb, but it looked like a young boy, a lot of sand, and a man speaking in aphorisms. I think I'll take your word for it!

*takes can of worms, opens* Yes, but if you take into account that the filmed verson wil be seen by many more people than those that saw it during the Barbican run, as well as acting as a permanent record of the event, it makes sense that the production be geared towards it. I'm not saying this is something I particularly like as a theatre-goer, but it makes logical sense.

Also just wondering, with your interest in theater, have you been following all the hype around Hamilton the musical? I probably won't be able to see the performance live but have been listening to the soundtrack (which is on Spotify for free), which is excellent and quite different, incorporating rap lyrics very effectively. Actually managed to make me excited about U.S. history again! :)

Hadn't heard a thing about Hamilton (I had to google to even work out who he was - American history, not my best thing *g*). But the clip I saw was hilarious. It'll almost certainly never get here, but I might give it a listen when I have more time. Appreciate the heads up, glad you're enjoying it!
