FIC: Routine Maintenance (BBC Sherlock, Mycroft/fem!Sherlock, NC-17)

I still remember that time I attempted to write fluffy Sherlock/John and ended up with a serialkillerAU!vid. Recently I've been struggling with something that's essentially gen and contains no smut, no kink, and barely any romance. My brain rebelled and decided this was a much better idea. I'm not sure I want to know what that says.

Two firsts-this is the first fanfic that I downloaded to and read on Kindle and it might be the first gender-swapped fic I've read...I can't remember if the trope was popular during the halcyon House days.

I've kudos'ed at A03, but I'll comment here because LJ still feels more amenable to concrit. I loved the writing, of course. Very hot, and your Mycroft remains deliciously masterful. No question WHY girl!Sherlock wants him and needs the "fix" to function.

I'm sort of curious about the thought process behind this because even thought it's hot as all get, I didn't necessarily feel that there was something special about girl!Sherlock that made her any different from regular Sherlock aside from the anatomy. Or was that the point? I'm not sure there should be a difference, or if that's just gender essentialism or other ism, but without it, I didn't get any particular extra frisson out of the swap, if that makes any sense ( ... )

Hey, I'm honoured! I don't remember seeing any genderswap in House, although there was mpreg. A bit of it in Sherlock, which I avoided like the plague, but now here I am *g ( ... )

To quote the Monkees, it's a little bit me; it's a little bit you. I could see that you did write less angst/pain/bitterness into this Sherlock/Mycroft, but I wasn't sure that was a function of the gender-swap or just that you wanted to tell a lighter story.

I'm glad that there's still a forum where we can discuss fics on this level. A03 is an awesome thing, but I really miss the comment culture and the give/take that was more prevalent when I came to LJ in 2006.
