Atonement, JJ Feild, Sherlock

Watched Atonement yesterday (in the virtual company of evila_elf). I'd heard vaguely favourable things about the movie in general, but Keira Knightley leaves me Kompletely Kold, so I wasn't really looking forward to it. However, the last-minute discovery that James McAvoy was in it lifted my spirits immensely, because I've found him very watchable in the ( Read more... )

I hadn't seen that before, and enjoyed it -- it certainly makes more sense than the life John Watson has supposedly lived for two seasons! ;-)

Hee! Actually, that's kind of frighteningly true XD

I'll watch almost anything on the basis of James McAvoy.

So, you've seen Atonement then? Or not? I really know very little about him, but it's another great role and performance. It does freak me out a little that he did Starter for 10 and Last King of Scotland in the same year or thereabouts because I could have sworn he's at least six or seven years older in the latter *g*

I read the novel too, well before I saw the movie, so yes. As for how he looks, he's just that good an actor, I think. ;-)

LOL, yes, that's kind of what I was implying - can't argue with you there *g*. And I really am tempted to read the book now, too.

James McAvoy is fantastic in Atonement, and Benedict Cumberbatch... well, let's just say that I didn't even recognize him the first time I saw the film because his character is so utterly off-putting. Now I've decided that this is just yet more proof of his awesome acting skillz. (Also proof that he should never go blond and grow a moustache again.)

Yes, JM is indeed fabulous, and as for BC I was deeply grateful for the moustache, because I felt able to hate him with conviction! LOL.

JJ is SO gorgeous. I'm actually surprised that he's not a bigger star or more well known. There's something about that smile that melts me all the time.

I was surprised to find out he wasn't gay *ggg*.

And allowing people to tee off your face is very silly. Bad boy!

Hee, I'm just glad - as I've mentioned before - that at least YOU like him! I think he's lovely but his acting style is perhaps not quite in classic repressed British mode - he might be better off in America. I do think he definitely has the potential to be better known though, and he has plenty of years yet to get there. Provided he doesn't use the same judgement in choosing movies as he does in golf stunts *g*

Glad you enjoyed Atonement! I saw it well before I'd ever heard of Benedict Cumberbatch, but I always remembered his character and how utterly creepy and terrifying he was.

Years later, when I re-watched the movie just for him, I realized I remembered almost everything his character did in that movie. The "You have to bite it" scene is handled particularly well.

I'd already had vague glimmerings of what his character was going to be like (including a preview of that exceedingly creepy scene) but the role turned out to be even worse than the hints *g*. I thought people were just being casually flippant in their comments regarding his character - I didn't realise they were actually going there.

Although now I think of it this is possibly one of the only movies where HE ends up perfectly okay - it's everyone else who suffers - for a change.
