All right; I'm actually going to be covering 4 days of the meme in this post, so I'll be putting them under another LJ cut. I hope the people on Dial-Up appreciate it.
Ergh. That alien thing was in that dolphin game? It looks so.. unnatural. "Alone in the Dark" still gives me nightmares. The thought of random horrors phasing in from mirrors and through walls in an old south eastern colonial house at any time made game play tense when you were stuck on a puzzle.
Yes, it was. In a game about dolphins. The plot for the Ecco series were actually pretty good, if I remember correctly, but out of context I guess the aliens don't make a whole lot of sense.
Never played Alone in the Dark *puts on "To Play" list*, but I'll take your word for it. Why is it that south eastern colonial houses are such magnets for that kind of slupernatural horror? D: It sounds eerie but neat.
Its from 1990. Its very old (It created the camera views that Resident Evil was made infamous for) The second game is just silly and you would probably laugh more than be scared. (The badguys blindly announce "HI GUY!" then attack you. And there is a harmless killer-jester you get to kill with a giant sewing needle while wearing a santa suit)
Its the game that got me into HP Lovecraft. Since the power haunting the house is shub niggurath.
Oh my god, I looked at your entry on my friends list and was like, "Jesus christ, I hope it's not fucking Echo the Dolphin, fuck. That game is the bane of my existence." Figuring I was the only one to ever almost crap my pants at those games I clicked, AND ALL MY FEARS WHEN I SAW THESE PICTURES WHAT IN THE WORLD. It was like my childhood fears and nightmares came flooding back, lol. What a trip!! Why are those games to horrifying!?
Really? What a coincidence! XD FFFDADFDADFLGAGHA I KNOW RIGHT D: I typed in "Ecco the Dolphin" at Google Images, wanting a picture of the cover for the first Sega Genesis version, AND RIGHT ON THE FRONT PAGE. GIANT SHARKS. HUGE MURKY SPACES. D: Why WERE they so terrifying? Damnit, Sega, it's a series about dolphins, cute, playful, friendly creatures!
Sorry to give you such a horrific nostalgic trip, but if it's any consolation, at least now you know you're not the only one who found these games scary.
