late-night fic: The Bubble

Not even bothering with a title or description, because it's 4 am and I don't even know why I wrote this. If you need a hint as to what it's about, just look at the icon. :P

You don’t know if this is the best or worst thing that’s ever happened to you... )

Just OMG. You must post this FAR AND WIDE, I demand it. Because seriously, this is so heartwrenchingly, ache-makingly SAD. Sad Sad Sadity Sad.

Ted! Oh GOD Ted you are so repressed! When I was rewatching Of Course, I had some of the exact same thoughts when they said Strip Club! And you crafted this so beautifully. Boy it just SPEAKS to me. There's something incredibly truthful in this piece.

He’s the only person who’s ever made you feel this alive. The only one you’ve ever pushed yourself for, even a little. The only one who’s ever really broken your heart.

God yes. And Barney HAS broken his heart. Let's not forget that. OH TED!

and brown eyes meet blue, and every time, the millisecond before it hits you he’ll say “Strip club?” and you’ll follow a little too eagerly, running away again.

Yes. A little TOO eagerly!

You orbit, you get close, but you never touch, at least nothing but the palms when they smack against one another, and you’ll feel that tingle for minutes afterward, that smart contact of skin on skin, no matter how ( ... )

Thank you so much! :D I'm glad to hear that it spoke to you, even if it is somewhat incoherent and more than a little abstract. And I'm really honored you wrote a (better-written) companion piece to it! That's the highest compliment I can possibly get.

Love you, bro! &hearts (See, because /I/ can say it. TED.)

Love you too, man. &hearts

And I only riff on stuff that really inspires me. You know that. :-)

Holy crap, this is awesome!
I pretty much feel like IO covered all the bases when she commented but damn...I love the angst and the repression and the thought process.
Way to go, your insomnia :)

Seriously, if I could write this well at any time before 3 am, I could probably win the Pulitzer. :P

And thank you so much! I'm really glad that his thought process and the repression came through, because it's really difficult to make Ted's feelings come out when he's working so hard to hide them. Glad you liked it! &hearts

Dude, I KNOW. Barney/Ted has quickly become my number one HIMYM ship. AND IT WILL NEVER BE CANON. ARGH. (Although, based on how Barney/Robin went, that's probably a good thing.) But seriously. If Ted can find a woman that's even half like Barney, he could live a pretty happy life with her. It just wouldn't be awesome.

And thanks! I've seen that scene from last week a ridiculous number of times by now. I just HAD to write fic for it somehow.

I'm glad you liked it! &hearts

Ohgod, this is just sooooo. So good.

Very heart-breaking, very sad, very realistic. Exactly what I love (and what I think happens behind the masks): the repression, the coexistance (if there's such a word, nevermind), the utter denial.

You decided that nine years ago, and it’s a bit too late to change your mind now, Mosby.
So very Ted. Just. Ugh.

I just loved this to pieces and I also think I've wanted to read this since, like, ever. Ever ever.
And you write Ted like no other. <3 Thank you so much.

Wow, thank YOU! This is such a lovely review. :D I'm so glad you found it realistic, because I think the show works pretty hard to cover up how much feeling there is between Ted and Barney, because both characters are so committed to wearing those masks, as you said, that they won't let themselves show how much they really care about each other, or at least not very often.

Honestly, I think these two are my OTP, and there's so little fic of them out there that it breaks my heart! So this just had to be written.

Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to comment!

Yeah, show does indeed. But sometimes there are these amazing glimpses which make us go "awww" and ship them harder, right?
But the fic feels very... real. Very canon. And so-so-so IC.

Mhmm, I have the same problem. I think I've read everything, really everything there is in the world on them. Including badfic. Ouch.
