The Effect of Fandoms on the Individual's Consciousness

May 04, 2009 11:24

After nearly 12 hours of revision (though I finished at 12:30, bitches!) and half a bag of Milanos, my fandom paper has been completed!!! And since some of you wanted to read it, I'm posting it here. Warning: it's very long (nearly 6500 words), but I think it's worth it, since it's such an interesting topic. So without further ado...

Wow. That was very well-written, concise and interesting to read. I'm no Prof, but I give it an A+.

What a fantastic subject to write on!

Thank you! It was definitely fun to research, if a bit of a pain to write. It's 20 pages long! O_O

I'm really hoping my professors like it as much as you did. =)

Okay, only just working my way through this but...

>When watching or recalling their favored television shows, people “become more similar to their ideal selves, a phenomenon elicited by only the closest of relationships”

WRT the role play, boy I HOPE NOT! LOL!

(...JK! LOL!)

I think the "character bleed" icon is needed here.

And I finished reading it. Wow, this is BRILLIANT! Nicely argued and fascinating. Hope you get an A!

I once spent a lot of time talking to Simon Pegg about Fandom schisms over a pint. But that's another story.

You and your celebrity connections. Haha.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It was definitely fun to research. Of course, now I'm also overanalyzing our fandom in addition to everything else I was already overthinking, but I'm sure that'll wear off eventually. =D

If I DON'T get an A on this, I might cry. =(

Haha. You know, someone in my class actually did this paper on how playing video games might cause a split sense of identity, and during his entire presentation I was thinking, "Character bleed!!!!" And then I wished I'd written the paper on roleplay instead of fandoms.

I don't think the "ideal self" has anything to do with RP, just that people become less inhibited when watching or thinking about their shows? I don't know exactly what that quote was trying to say. It didn't elaborate much. =P
