In addition to their other numerous idiot-proof enchantments, the compendiums cannot be read nor used by mortals. Furthermore, when taken out of your possession, they are eventually returned to your Librarian, who may then in turn return it to you.

We will not, however, be the least bit happy in doing so. Please keep this in mind.

When I'm travelling with mine, I don't just put it in my backpack. I stuff it in my pants. It's a lot harder to get it stolen that way.
