it was really incredible to be inside this play I had imagined alone three years before
Ooh, that does sound really neat! As does the whole progression on "Sweet Prince".
No eggplant, peppers, onions, or hummus... What did you even eat in Israel :P Nah, I'm kidding! I am actually not a big fan of eggplant either -- for me it's texture. It's kind of slimy, but not in a firm way that things like pickled mushrooms, say, are slimy. I don't mind the tast eof eggplant at all, and actually like some dishes that contain eggplant, as long as I don't have to think about what I'm eating. And I like hummus, but dislike tahini. Like you, I can tolerate a little bit of tahini on falafel, but won't eat hummus with tahini in it.

Haha, my mother was really worried about me because of that and the fact that I'm a vegetarian and just fine with falafel, not in love with it. I did have one of my two times really liking eggplant there and one of my two times really liking humus on the plane. I ate a lot of Israeli salad and rice as well as a few not so Israeli things, peanut butter, veggie burger/chicken stuff (they told some of the places we were staying that two of us were vegetarians),french fries, ice cream and wine. One of the jokes on the trip is that because we hiked so much and sometimes had to wait a while and/or had limited choices for food that it was the "ten day diet", but I actually think I gained weight. Oh well! It was fun!
-I also really loved The Pigman (and Madeleine L'Engle books). I still remember one scene where John tells Lorraine that he goes to cemetery to look for ghosts, in hope of finding that there's something more. Paul Zindel is an awesome writer.
-And I agree with you about people often being dumb about the intentions of others (I'm sure we've all done it). I believe research has shown that this is usually the reason behind bullying - the "bully" perceives that people are threatening him/her when in fact no one is. While no magic can help, each person can try to do his or her part by working on being open-minded and understanding and encouraging the same attitudes in others.
-The "experience" of the Civil War sounds like a nice idea. It's always best to make sure the students can make personal connections to the material.
-Wow, I didn't know about any of those being your least favorite foods, lol. And yeah, that is a hard question - I'd be stuck with what to come up with after green beans...
Oh yeah, I definitely make assumptions about the intentions of others! But you're right, it's something we can try not to do.
I think it's really important to use personal stories when talking about grand tragedies in history, because it's hard to comprehend that this happened to real people otherwise.
Well, most of my favorite and least favorite food choices were formed when I was young. I am much more chilled out now about what I will try, but those are things I have some negative connection to still. I have eating and either liked or tolerated all of them though.
Try making it on your own and salt it, then let it sit for awhile. Then rinse the salt all off and prepare it with whatever spices you usually like. A lot of times, the problem is eggplant is actually really bitter and most places skip this step because they're don't want to take the time. It makes a LOT of difference in taste!
Honestly, I just wrote those questions to be silly. I didn't really expect you to answer them, but I wanted to see if you would take a stab at it. Why is the sky blue? Always annoyed me as a question because they use it a lot in reference to things little kids asked, but no one's every taken the question seriously, so I'm glad you tried.
