Ok, so I have just been to see the surgeon again... the news could have been worse, but it could have been a lot better. I need more surgery.

Sorry to hear that your knee's still giving you bother.

If you're not busy over the next eight weeks and all the investigating has been done, you could say that you're available on really short notice and see if you can get into the slot of someone whose surgery has been abandoned at the last minute (i.e they're six thousand years old and they've got a heart condition that no one noticed until now and the anaesthatist said "FUCK no!" to.). I've heard of this being an option somewhere, but I can't remember in what surgery or where...

hmmmm - I shall bear this in mind! madness. I'm ok waiting a while though, I've waited longer than that for my mri results, so...

these things happen. not so much of a rush, if I'm careful, I guess.
