Does the man not use any sources himself? Surely he must be plagiarizing someone!

Maybe you should just offer his works glowing praise? Conversely, I'm sure he's perfectly aware of the shortcomings of his works. If he isn't, go with the glowing praise. And tape some money to the essay.

I think you should use his books, and criticise them if you genuinely believe you should.

As an academic (and a grown-up) he's not going to stamp his foot and mark you down if you dont agree with him - that's how academic discourse works. Anything else would be childish.

Indeed, if you don't agree with him on some issues, it would make a basis for fruitful discussion when he hands it back to you. Which will provide the required learning experience for you, and maybe even give him a fresh perspective if you're lucky. And, y'know, tutors do tend to set work cos they want you to learn stuff, not for their own gratification.

So seriously, stop stressing - if you have books use em, regardless of their source. And be pleased that you have such an emminent tutor!

Tis true.

my main frettage is due to the complete lack of range in my sources, which I have now remedied, and the fact that I agree with him on almost every point, but do not want to seem like I am toadying....

Yes. not bad.

Thanks!
