(Edit: Figures. Three days after I posted an essay, not only have the comics moved, invalidating thirteen of my links, but for more than a week after, I can't be bothered to change the links. Well, at least deleting one of those included parenthetically isn't too hard. Edit 2: The links should now direct correctly.)

Ah, politics. A subject I don't Read more... )

I think the problem that you're having is that pop culture routinely portrays all wars as the same.... not distinguishing any difference between the American Revolution (a war of secession) the Napoleonic Wars (a war of conquest) or the Gulf War (the overthrow of a despot.) You're going to be confused if you can't tell the difference between a Rebel fighter who wants to free his country from a tyrant, and a terrorist summabitch who wants to reinstate him. Motivation and causes do make a difference; they decide how a war will be fought and, more importantly, how it will end ( ... )

...Ooooh. I think I remember this. Conservatives want small government and big something else, and liberals are the opposite, right?

Also, I know next to nothing about Hillary Clinton's personality. Or was Eleanor Roosevelt from Arkansas? (And what do you mean by "self-coronated"? It can't be that she made herself First Lady.)

"WE are the president."
Nuff said.

Conservatives want "small" government in the sense that they want a government that is pared back to, and held to, the limits as outlined in the Constitution. National defense, law enforcement, infrastructure.

Democrats want a government that provides for and controls every aspect of life.... right down to the food you eat.
