You know what really sucks? When a person in a disempowered group can't see that their struggle is analogous to the struggle of another disempowered group. That the two overlap and that the same types of thinking, unspoken rules, codes and social blindness to privilege exists for both. You are so right. As an African American, I feel that I have to support all other forms of civil rights, but I know that not all African Americans feel that way and many have strong moral objections to homosexuality. The same with Women's rights. And, don't even get me started on how EVERYONE forgets the Latino population. Until all minorities realize that we ALL need equal rights and protection under the law, we will not move forward.

It's scary to think how few people actually have power to change the really important things. And when you think how many of us fall outside the narrow ideas of "normal", then frankly THEY should be the ones out in the cold. And that's not even a personal opinion of mine - it's just math. Why can't we all just be "people"?

I swear, we're an alien invasion just WAITING to happen. Right now, some superior alien race is just sitting there watching us, while eating space-popcorn and arguing over who gets to have the tropical islands, once we've wiped ourselves out.
