A new arc, and whole pile of new imagery to play with. It's about this point that they start to turn up the darkness rather a lot. I absolutely love the room full of coffins - the scene where you hear them knocking is just creepy as all get out... And the duelling arena full of corpse-outlines? Instant shivers.

And yes, the show is actually far more low-budget than it initially appears (hence the careful avoidance of animating lips). It's just quite good at hiding it. :)

And then the desks shuffle themselves of their own accord, and the coffin gets dropped into a hellish inferno, quite possibly the actual hell.

So it has that in common with Neon Genesis Evangelion, at the very least.
