There are so many things to ramble about in this episode...
"Girls who cannot become princesses have no choice but to become witches" - the feminist struggle in a single sentence.
The Shadow Play Girls are full of so very much awesome.
Is Chu-chu Anthy's familiar? Funny how he seems to get in the way of the camera just as Akio's arm is going places... :)
The image of Anthy being impaled by those swords is just unforgettably powerful. And suddenly, Utena's desire to be a prince is utterly compelling in its nobility. It certainly puts an interesting twist on that opening narration we've been hearing for so long.
Anthy asking "who are you?" as she lies watching Utena in bed always sticks in my mind. She sounds so utterly afraid; the emotion behind it is wonderful.
I swear that that creaking metal sound effect used at the end of the episode is the single creepiest sound I have ever heard. It gives me an involuntary shiver just remembering it.
Also, now finally I can use this icon without it being a spoiler.
Let the record show that I never doubted you. *has not actually checked the record*
Oh yeah, big time, and the way all those people were demanding that Anthy let the Prince out to save their daughters, like helping them to be able defend themselves and take care of themselves wasn't even an option...blechh!
Indeed, the whole "Anthy's nobility" goes from an empty platitude to something deep and meaningful. I love this show.
Indeed, does Utena remember? Does she even want to remember? If she does remember, will she still feel the same way? There's just so much for Anthy to fear, which just compounds her eternal suffering.
And yeah, the moment I saw that icon, I was all, 'well no wonder you never used it before!' XD
Of course, the mob scene also throws a whole disturbing new light on that scene waaaay back in episode 3 or so (at the ball) where Anthy is terrified of being in a crowd of people...
Since I don't think I've mentioned it so far, is it just me, or are the images of Utena and Anthy in the current (final) set of ending credits just utterly sensual and gorgeous?
On a related note, it may amuse you to know that I've started watching Princess Tutu. I'm blaming you, pre-emptively. (So far it's awesome.)
