I'm reading One Hundred Years of Solitude right now. Someone did a presentation on it in my World Lit. class, and I bought it shortly after that. I'm not that far in, yet, but I'm certainly enjoying it.

You liked "Ulysses" but not "The Odyssey"? Hmm... I will admit that Homer does get a bit boring at points (Catalogue of Ships = Fail), but the monsters are classic! I agree on "Moby-Dick," though: small doses are key.
