All good trips come to an end, and the end of our trip involved a lot of driving. We had to get from the West Point Lighthouse all the way back to Halifax, a distance of 230 miles using the most direct route over the Confederation Bridge, which is only 22 years old. After a lot of Green Gables tourism, it was time to head into the big city of Charlottetown. We checked out of Dalvay-by-the-Sea on the morning of Saturday, September 21.

The second of the four PEI scenic tours is the Green Gables Shore, which covers the northern half of the center of the island. As you'd expect from the name, it encompasses most of the major Anne of Green Gables related tourist sites. We woke at Spry Point somewhat early on Thursday, September 19. I sensibly went back to bed, but M decided to wander the trails around the point. These trails had a number of downed trees due to Hurricane Dorian, but David the innkeeper had been busy with his chainsaw and she wandered in all directions on the narrow point. After our very long travel day, we slept in. It was glorious. After a rousing Holiday Inn breakfast and some examination of the advertisements for an upcoming curling event, we hopped in the car and drove to the ferry. After a brief spin through the souvenir shop in the terminal, we drove on to the ferry. We stayed up on deck and admired the view. ( Read more... )

We went to Prince Edward Island. We ate out a lot, and unsurprisingly all the restaurants were new to us. Most of them had seafood, and we hit that as hard as we could.
