According to my obsessive compulsive records, I have now biked to work 225 times for over 4000 miles since I started biking back in 2013. To put that in perspective, when my sister and I drove from Alaska to Cleveland in 2010, we only went 3,941 miles. Back in September, I had only biked 500 miles due to my sabbatical and other travel, and based on prior history getting to 1,000 miles seemed improbable. Then October happened. If you don't bike for six weeks, it's like you haven't biked all winter. I feel slow, and my body is sore. The ride is taking a lot longer, but it is happening. So how's biking gone this summerWell, so far I'm at 285 miles, the vast majority of that via commuting. Using my 2014 standard of two commutes a week, and starting with the week of May 10, my fifteen commutes has me two rides behind pace entering this week. Today I cleared 1000 bike miles for the year, all commuting. I'm at 1015.9 miles total. For those keeping score at home, that's 55 rides of 17.5 miles and 3 rides of 17.8 miles, which were in recent weeks by some road construction that made me think a detour was prudent.
