Laurie Berkner Must Die!

For my first Father's Day, M got me a CD. While it may technically be "my" CD, I'm happy to cede all rights to The Best of the Laurie Berkner Band to Birdie, who appreciates it much more than I do.

The CD actually has spent most of the last six months firmly ensconced in the CD player in my wife's car. It came with us to New Mexico, but was at that point not something that commanded my daughter's fascination. That changed after we returned from that trip. From October to January, Birdie insisted on listing to Laurie Berkner nearly every time she was in the car.

Since M drives Birdie around during the day, this hit her a lot harder than it hit me. She was listening to the "Best of" CD 2 or 3 times a day or more on longer trips. However, even on my less frequent occasions either riding with them or driving Birdie around I got quickly and heartily sick of everything about that CD. The long drive down to Hilton Head was particularly painful.

Thankfully, in recent months Birdie has started to lose interest in Laurie Berkner. Sometimes when she's upset she wants to listen in the car, but the need to listen to it incessantly has largely died down, and as such so has my irritation with that song. It's obviously fair to note the many, many times I've driven my parents nuts by playing the same music over and over, but at least I was nominally an adult at that point. I figured I wouldn't hate my daughter's musical choices until she was at least a teenager.

For the record, Birdie's favorite Laurie Berkner song is certainly "Moon," and while it's not on the CD she prefers this jazzy version from YouTube. She can do the hand gestures and everything.
