Marriage: Year One

Sep 04, 2021 11:56

Our first anniversary was two weeks ago. As you may have heard, the pandemic that made us conduct the entire wedding online via zoom has continued, plus we've got this baby, so we didn't go out. Instead:

- I made M her favorite Pan-Grilled Sea Scallops. I did think about recreating our wedding dinner of Scallops & Cherry Tomatoes with Caper-Butter Sauce but opted for her personal favorite instead.
- M bought us an Oreo Ice Cream Cake, just like we had for our wedding. Due to some grocery store mishaps it arrived home somewhat melted (we speculate that the curbside folks put it in the fridge instead of a freezer) but it still tasted like an Oreo Ice Cream cake. We think we may turn this into an annual tradition.
- I bought M a very large bouquet. My joke is that since she didn't want an expensive ring, I have more budget to buy flowers on a regular basis.
- Gifts were exchanged. The first anniversary is "paper", so M got me a piece of art, which hasn't actually arrived. She also got the frame for it. I got her a fancy folding card. The card was inscribed with a promise to buy her a kayak when she's ready to shop for it, so I both covered "paper" and got her something she really wants.

Hopefully the pandemic ends so for our second anniversary we can use the Pier W giftcard a fraternity brother got us for a wedding present. The gift for the secondary anniversary is cotton, which I note only because I'll need all that time to think of something.

As noted, a lot can change in a year. Sadly, in less than a year three of our zoom guests passed away.
- My family's good friend Mark.
- My father's oldest first cousin, Barry.
- My friend Shari's life partner, John.

And of course, Tulip.
