You Are What You Eat: March 14 through March 27

Mar 27, 2020 18:47

It's been two weeks but there's little to report. On the other hand, if I write up now, I can throw away a post-it note from the kitchen with all the new recipes I tried, and at the current rate I may not need a new one for a while!

[1] As suspected, nobody is going out to eat. Coronavirus is bad for the social life but good for the wallet, at least in this specific respect. That makes 15 days in a row without eating out, which is probably my record as an adult.

[2] I made two new recipes, bringing the yearly total to 26.
- The March 2020 Eating Well featured an Egyptian dish called Koshari that mixes lentils, chickpeas, brown rice and spaghetti, among other things. This sounded ridiculous enough that I had to try it. It was time consuming and took a lot of pots, but the end results were actually delicious. Neither M nor I were wild about the Dakka topping (one of three in the recipe), but otherwise we liked it. Also, I learned you can fry onions in a air fryer just fine. We'll likely make this again.

After the fact I recalled that way back in April 2013 Kat (formerly katspaw156) and Eric hosted a street food supper club that featured a Koshari variant (they spelled it kushari) that I really enjoyed it. So maybe my subconscious made me pick this recipe out.

- The April 2020 Eating Well had Sesame Shrimp Stir-Fry & Spinach. M likes stir fry in general and sesame seeds in specific, and we both liked this quick and easy dish.
