Fireflies

Both M and I both worked on Monday, July 3. After we had dinner we walked the dogs down to the lake to enjoy the sunset. After that, M suggested we drive down to the Metroparks and look for fireflies. While we could see plenty of fireflies near my house, she thought we'd see more of them in the dark of the park.

We drove down into the Rocky River Reservation and pulled over in an empty parking lot near where Hogsback Lane descends into the park. We turned off the lights and got out of the car, and lo and behold, there were fireflies everywhere. We could see them in the trees, over the river, and in the bushes. If we stood so the moonlight was blocked by the trees, it was a like a glowing wall of fireflies.

We drove up and down the rest of the reservation, but no other spot that we stopped at had so many fireflies. We did hear a lot more frogs at other locations, but for fireflies, Hogsback was the place to be. We went back and watched them for a while longer before going to bed.

If you're in Cleveland in the summer, I strongly recommend hitting the parks in the dark to see fireflies en mass.
