For last year's
Supper Club the theme was "Jewish Soul Food". That night was a resounding success, but there were many recipes that didn't make the cut for that first meal. Therefore, rather than coming up with an entirely new theme I followed the Hollywood model and declared a sequel. Therefore, 364 days after Jewish Soul Food, it was time for Jewish Soul Food 2.
Like all sequels, I hit the same notes bigger and better. Last year I flew in one person from Atlanta; this year I flew in both
tigerlily_blue and her boyfriend Ethan. Last year I made too much food, this year we made way too much food. Last year I had 15 total attendees; this year we had 17 total attendees. In addition to my sister, Ethan and myself, we had:
gieves and
darloxCynthia & Alex
Toby & Maureen
ayb2 and Brent
Carol & John
katspaw156 and 1em
indy_was_here and
stampinmak With two able bodied assistants we served a fantastic five course meal.

Notes Supper Club rules say that the host can spend as much as $20/guest on food. I spent the full amount, with the last $80 going to four bottles of red wine. Pretty much anyone who wanted leftover cholent, cookies or kugel got to bring it home with them, as I once again demonstrated my uncanny ability to prepare far too much food, or perhaps my ability to underestimate the ability of other people to eat as much as me!
I learned that fitting 17 people around my two tables is just barely doable. If I had had any more attendees I would have needed to borrow a card table or something, but the room itself would have been big enough. I was helped by
gieves lending me both folding chairs and wine glasses. Props also to
butterandjelly for lending me a second crock pot; I should probably just bite the bullet and acquire another one as I keep finding reason to use two at once.
Thanks also to Mom for providing the cholent and bagel recipes, and to
Smitten Kitchen for providing virtually every other recipe.
If all goes according to plan, later this week I'll post all the recipes and detailed dinner details! In the meantime, enjoy some
dark, slightly blurry pictures!
