is ridiculously simple to make. It is so simple to make that I will probably never purchase it at a restaurant again, as I'm not sure how it could be much better or easier than this recipe, which came from a piece of junk snail mail that I got from (weirdly)
AllRecipes.com, which apparently
came from their website.
Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
- 2 pounds pork. The recipe calls for pork tenderloin, but that's really expensive and doesn't seem to taste much better than a pork shoulder or Boston Butt.
- 1 12oz root beer. I used two, and used IBC because I wanted to be able to drink the rest of the six pack.
- 1 18oz jar BBQ sauce. A comment in the article suggested KC Masterpiece, and by an amazing coincidence I actually had that exact brand in my fridge. It worked fine; use whatever you like.
- Hamburger buns for serving.
1. Place the pork in the slow cooker.
2. Pour the root beer over the pork.
3. Turn the slow cooker on medium for 6 to 7 hours.
4. Drain any leftover root beer.
5. Pull the pork apart with a fork.
6. Mix in the BBQ sauce.
7. Serve on the buns.
I've made this twice so far. The first time I actually used the tenderloin, and DPR and ND really liked it. The second time I used pork shoulder, and everybody who tried it at the whiskey tasting party I attended liked it.
The hardest part of making this meal for the party was the buns. I bought a package of dinner rolls as they were approximately slider-sized. The
sandwich, not the
mascot. In any event, the dinner rolls weren't pre-sliced, so I had to do that. It took longer than any other part of the process.
