Yesterday I discussed Kurosawa's most famous four movies, each of which featured samurai. I've also seen four of his six other samurai films. Here's the breakdown:

I think that Sanjuro is probably my favorite, though if you haven't been able to track down one of his earliest films, Sanshiro Sugata, I highly recommend it -- as a Kurosawa artifact if not for its intrinsic value.

First: Holy crap, I got you to comment on something!

Second: According to Wiki it is in fact his first ever film, made during WWII. My limiting factor of "only watch movies in movie theaters" will make it hard to see, but I'll keep an eye out for it.

Third: Of these four Sanjuro is certainly my favorite. Of yesterday's four I wouldn't argue that it's better than any of them, but for sheer entertainment value like it more than Ran and Rashomon. In many ways I like it better than Yojimbo too, if only because I don't get strange Clint Eastwood flashbacks during it.
