Yeah, it's funny how people's perspectives can change dramatically depending on circumstances. Go without food for a day or two and you'll soon appreciate various charity services, etc.
It's not even about charities - it's about survival without the charities and freebies. Turn me loose in a desert with a water bottle and a couple of days of provisions, and I'd survive just fine, because I know what it's like to live with not very much. There are others out there who're FAR better at survival than I am - but I could make it.
