Swimming is supposed to be good, but despite suffering similar ailments, I never quite got around to it. Any exercise that loosens the upper body/neck is okay, but swimming is non-weight bearing, so it's supposed to be excellent.
I'm usually quite accurate in predicting when I'll suffer - it's very much a case of bad posture causing mine. A more active work environment - compared to my previous one - has helped hugely, but that's not always something you can change!
There are a few bits you might be able to do - get a mat and do yoga/pilates/Alexander technique at home every couple of days for 10-15 mins, perhaps?
I'm not a massive fan of chiropractors for this - you end up feeling sorer and maniuplated, and paying for the feeling - but perhaps physiotherapists might be okay. Could be worth talking to a sports physio, or seeing if there are any trainee ones who might offer discounted rates of some kind?
