Oh, Scott.

I shouldn't feel bad for him, after what an ass he was, but the fact that he realizes what he did and theoretically would have tried to do the right thing to try to fix it is enough to make me feel for him. He got himself into the situation, but it still couldn't have been easy. And then Jean's death... *sniff*

Great response.

Yeah, really. As we were going through the canon while I wrote this, I kept thinking -- the less I think about what he actually DID and SAID the more sympathetically I can write hiim. But -- you know -- he obviously did come to terms with his personal responsibility at some point; I'll just pretend that it happened before Joss took over Jean died.

(And, credit where it's due, the notion of what Scott would have said to Jean actually comes from his speech to her grave in 'Bright New Mourning' -- so either somebody ghosted that or Chuck Austen wrote a few panels that actually made character sense. Hard as that is to believe!)

"Pulled the trigger" - the image says it all, I think.

Painful and true.

Thank you!

I'm not really sure that he's right about what Jean would have done, but there's certainly a preference across fandoms -- if you're going to be shot down, it should be by someone you care about.
