YOUR ANALYSIS IS BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD. And by this, I mostly mean that this (Marivaux's Arlequin Poli Par L'amour) is not a piece of which I find the analysis rewarding. Freudian psychology isn't too well known to me since I've mostly studied Jung, but his phallo-centric philosophies just irk me. Not to mention some of his central ideas about females assumes that little girls actually know about those things when they're young. And it serves to define all motivation in a person's life as sexual (and masculine sexuality at that) which I really don't understand.

Don't know too much about the book in question, but I just thought I'd throw my Freud opinions in there.

THIS. I swear, I am not overwhelmingly motivated in life by lack of a penis! It has not given me any major neuroses! (If lack of a penis *does* give you major neuroses, then the word for you is probably "FTM transsexual", not "female".)

I feel like Freud is decentish until he starts talking about female sexuality at all. Because man, clueless much?

Freudian analysis is an exercise in imagination and nothing else, imo. I mean, really, the dream interpretation is fun, but that's about it.
