I'm not sure crying foul out of an ignorance of contract law makes my heart bleed for her. Maybe that's unfair, since in 1990 the web wasn't even an option for researching this stuff, and one assumes she didn't have an agent watching out for her--but it's soooo why you don't sign contracts without understanding them. *sigh* A cautionary tale about working with book packagers.

I don't love the fact that the publisher is named and not the packager, either.

That's horrible, regardless of where the fault lies, she created it. It should remain hers.
