I often read junk paperback mysteries to relax. A few months ago I made an impulse purchase of Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer instead of my usual detective fiction.

One of my favorite childhood books was Jean Craighead George's My Side of the Mountain. Slipping off to live alone in the woods seemed so appealing. Now I roll my eyes, and say, "Right
