Anyone with a sense of practicality will be aware that the police are merely controlling (to a debatable extent) crime rather than stopping it.... and stabilisation at worst is the best we can expect
One of the reasons I like the novels of Bill James is 'cos he tackles precisely this without melodrama. (Infinitely preferable to TV police with their Magic!CCTV, shiny clear-up rates and infinitely tedious [w]angst, but I digress)
People today are not being imbued with consideration for others. Word. As a preschool teacher who spends a good portion of every workday attempting to imbue precisely that... *sigh* I'd have to say you're right. We're pushing poo uphill, a lot of the time - and not just because concepts like "good" and "bad" behaviour are now taboo in the classroom. (Although that doesn't help
